How to make a GIF

  1. Step 1

    Pick what to animate

Choose photos from your device, an animated template, or the countdown timer.

  2. Step 2

    Set the timing

Photos: seconds per photo and a transition (cut, crossfade, slide or zoom). Templates: change the words, or open the design in the editor to animate each element.

  3. Step 3

    Preview it

Press Play to watch it loop, or drag the time slider to check any moment.

  4. Step 4

    Choose the file

GIF works everywhere. Animated WebP, MP4 and WebM appear when your browser can make them. Pick a size, frame rate and quality.

  5. Step 5

    Download

The file is made on your device and saved straight to your downloads.

Animate a whole design in the editor

Every design in Educated Designer can move: open one, press Animate, and give each element an entrance (pop, fade, slide, bounce, typewriter) or a pulse, with its own start time. Watch it on the timeline, then download a GIF or video. Printing still uses the finished design.

Questions

Is the GIF maker free?

Yes. You can make and download GIFs here without an account. Free downloads can be up to 15 seconds long and carry a small “educateddesigner.com” credit in a corner. On Pro, downloads can be up to 60 seconds and have no credit.

Are my photos uploaded?

No. Photos are read and turned into a GIF inside your browser. They are not sent to our servers.

Which file types can I download?

GIF in every browser. Animated WebP where the browser can encode WebP images (for example Chrome, Edge and Firefox). MP4 and WebM where the browser can record video from a canvas; the page only shows the options your browser supports. Videos record in real time, so a 10-second animation takes about 10 seconds.

Why does my GIF look grainy or large?

A GIF can only use 256 colours per frame, so photos and gradients lose some smoothness. “Best quality” adds fine dithering to hide banding (bigger file); “Smaller file” uses fewer colours. A smaller size or a lower frame rate also makes the file lighter. For photos, MP4 or WebP usually look better at a smaller size.

Can I animate my own design?

Yes. Choose “Open in editor” on any template, or open a design in the Educated Designer editor and press Animate. Each element can pop in, fade, slide in from any side, bounce, pulse, or type itself out (text), with its own start time and length.

Does animation change how my design prints?

No. Printing, PDF and PNG downloads always use the finished, still design. Animation only affects GIF and video downloads.

Can I use the countdown in class or in a presentation?

Yes. The classroom countdown plays once and stops on the end message. Google Slides and PowerPoint both accept GIFs, or download an MP4 where your browser offers it.

Is there a transparent GIF option?

Yes, for designs with a see-through background, like the chat sticker. GIF transparency is on or off per pixel, so soft edges get a slight outline. Videos have no transparency and use a white background.
