Questions

Is it free?

Yes. Converting and downloading are free, with no watermark. You don't need an account for small batches.

Are my files uploaded?

No. The conversion runs in your browser on your own device, so your files never leave it and we never see them. Closing the tab clears everything.

Will I lose quality?

No. ICO is lossless, so the converted file keeps every pixel of the picture your browser decoded. Files are often bigger than the original, especially for photos.

Which sizes should an ICO have?

16, 32 and 48 pixels cover browser tabs, bookmarks and Windows shortcuts. Add 256 for large desktop icons.

My image isn't square. What happens?

It's centred on a square with a transparent background, so nothing is cropped or stretched.

How many files can I convert at once?

Up to 25 files per batch without an account, 50 with a free account and 500 on Pro. Each file can be up to 100 MB. Very large images may be scaled down to fit your browser's memory, and the tool tells you when that happens.

What happens to photo details like GPS location?

By default the converted file has no metadata: camera details, date and GPS location are removed. For JPG to JPG you can choose to keep the camera details, with or without the location.
