Free GIF Speed Changer

Speed up or slow down an animated GIF, or give every frame the same delay. The page warns when frames would go faster than browsers can show and offers to drop frames instead.

Every tool opens the same editor, so you can crop, then resize, then add text in one go. Files stay on your device.

How to use it

  1. Step 1

    Open your GIF

Drop a GIF on the page or pick one. It opens in your browser and is never uploaded.

  2. Step 2

    Choose the speed

Drag the speed slider or type a delay in milliseconds for every frame.

  3. Step 3

    Apply

    Delays change; the pictures don't.

  4. Step 4

    Download

Make the file and compare the new size and frame count with the original, then save it to your device.

Questions

Is my GIF uploaded anywhere?

No. The file is opened and edited inside your browser tab, and the new file is made on your device. Nothing is sent to our servers, so it works for private or unreleased work.

Why won't my GIF go any faster?

Browsers show frames shorter than 20 ms (2 hundredths of a second) at 100 ms, so a GIF can't usefully go faster than 50 frames a second. To speed up past that, drop frames in the optimiser.

Does it change the file size?

Barely: only the delay numbers change. Use the optimiser to make it smaller.

Is it free? Do I need an account?

Yes, it's free and needs no account. Editing and converting your own GIFs adds nothing to them. Animations you build from photos or a video follow the GIF maker's rules: free files are up to 15 seconds with a small corner credit; Pro removes the credit and allows 60 seconds.
