Questions

Which video formats work?

Any format your browser can play: MP4 (H.264) and WebM almost everywhere, MOV in Safari and usually in Chrome. If a clip won't open, it uses a codec your browser can't decode.

How long can the GIF be?

Up to 15 seconds of video on the free plan and 60 seconds on Pro. GIFs get large quickly, so short clips at 10–15 fps work best.

Is my GIF uploaded anywhere?

No. The file is opened and edited inside your browser tab, and the new file is made on your device. Nothing is sent to our servers, so it works for private or unreleased work.

Why is my GIF bigger than the video?

GIF is an old format with no modern video compression. Lower the frame rate or size, or use the optimiser's lossy setting. For sharing, WebP or MP4 output is often much smaller.

Is it free? Do I need an account?

Yes, it's free and needs no account. Editing and converting your own GIFs adds nothing to them. Animations you build from photos or a video follow the GIF maker's rules: free files are up to 15 seconds with a small corner credit; Pro removes the credit and allows 60 seconds.
